Two girl boats in Big Boat Challenge 2011

Kerteminde Sailing Club and Big Boat Challenge are now on the verge of the final line-up for the big regatta of the year in the Danish sailing world. The Big Boat Challenge 2011 will take place on the waters of Kerteminde Bay over the Whitsun weekend of 10-12 June.

We look forward to presenting a high-profile event featuring an exciting fleet of big racing yachts - many of which have never competed in Denmark before.

After we sent out the first invitations, a whole series of spectacular large boats have confirmed that they will be taking part, includes many big boats from different countries. This year's competitors include a Landmark 43, a Swan 56 R, a DK 46, a Marten 49, a Cookson 50, a JV41 and a large number of X-boats. The three Danish 60-footers - Buksesnedkeren, First Marine and Big Challenge - are also in the fleet. This means the racing is likely to provide both crews and spectators with a unique experience.

The Big Boat Challenge 2011 will be the international sail racing event of the year in Denmark. About 50% of the boats lined up to take part fly a foreign flag. Germany is the country best represented, followed by Norway. 75% of the boats that have signed up are over 40 feet, and the smallest is a 35-footer.

We can also reveal that this year two competitors will have all-female crews. Team Malteser will be taking part again in a Farr 40, and they will be joined by the German Tutima team in a DK 46. Each will have a crew of about 15 girls aboard.
